Home / News / The TRUTH About CARBS!

The number one thing that you need to understand about carbohydrates is that they provide your body with energy. Body fat is simply energy that your body has stored for survival for when food sources get low. In today’s modern society, it is very unlikely that you will ever run out of food and therefore you don't need to maintain a high level of body fat.

If your goal is to lose body fat, you need to burn off this stored energy. If you eat a high carb diet you are constantly feeding your body more energy. If you don't use that energy, your body will store the excess energy as body fat. If you eat carbs without burning off the stored energy, your body fat level will increase. It's for this reason that there are so many 'carb-free' diets out there.

What these fad diets don't take into consideration is that carbs are important for improved brain function and recovery. Carbs themselves aren't your worst enemy, uncontrolled consumption is! If you don't have body fat to lose, you can eat carbs as you would normally. On the other hand, if you have weight to lose and a higher amount of body fat, you have to cut carbs right down until you have reached your goal and only consume them at specific times of the day to make sure the energy is consumed effectively.

The nutrition section of our 12 Week Guide provides you with guidance on what carbs you should eat at what times of the day.

Ready, set, booty!

P.S. Yes, fruits are carbs :)
